Cleaner Safer Group is a company limited by guarantee without share capital, and has a purpose of working together for a cleaner, safer, more sustainable environment.

The group is made up of HETAS and Woodsure, with both organisations specialising in certification schemes in the solid fuel and biomass sector.

Both organisations operate their own specialist certification schemes and run contracted schemes on behalf of government, including the Ready to Burn certification schemes for wood and manufactured solid fuels, the Biomass Suppliers List and smoke control exemption for appliances.

HETAS

HETAS provides industry leading training and certification for the solid fuel and biomass sector, including installers, retailers, chimney sweeps and service technicians along with independent product approval. HETAS is the only competent person scheme specialising in the installation of solid fuel and biomass appliances. 

HETAS is a non-profit organisation, which prides itself on investing surplus funds into business areas that directly contribute to safely reducing particulate and carbon emissions for the benefit of the people and the environment. Achieved by working with government, industry experts and innovators providing expert advice, training and clear evidence-based information.

Woodsure

The UK’s only woodfuel quality assurance scheme. Woodsure is a not-for-profit organisation, striving to raise the quality of woodfuel in the industry. Trust Woodsure certified suppliers for reliable, high-quality wood fuels. 

The Woodsure Certification scheme comprehensively checks woodfuel producers to ensure that they produce and supply woodfuel to the correct standard.

Cleaner Choice

The Cleaner Choice Product Approval Scheme is focused on raising industry standards and driving consumers towards the cleanest burning biomass and solid fuel appliances proven to go above and beyond in minimising harmful particle emissions, reducing the impact of their use on air quality and the environment.
